How to Use a Turbo Oven

If you’re a first-time cook who’d rather spend more time eating than actually cooking, the “turbo” oven is for you. That's the popular name for a combined halogen and convection-cooking oven, technology which lets you cook food in about half the usual time. According to the U.K.’s "The Independent", a turbo oven produces extreme heat from a powerful inert halogen gas lamp inside it. There’s also a fan within, distributing convectional heat more effectively. Learning to use the oven a fairly easy task.

      Study your turbo oven user’s manual carefully, since power and operation vary slightly with each manufacturer. Determine what your particular dish's cooking time and temperature should be, based on the suggested information given in the manual for various foods.       Prepare your food according to your chosen recipe.

      Prepare the turbo oven. Set the oven on a heatproof kitchen countertop or table. Insert the appropriately-sized cooking rack or cooking platform inside the oven. Attach its lid and power socket as advised by the manual.

      Place the prepared food directly onto the cooking platform or rack inside the oven and secure the lid. Plug the oven’s power cord into a nearby electrical power outlet.

      Follow the specific instructions to your oven’s manual to set the correct cooking time and temperature. Once the settings are arranged, start the oven.

      Watch your food cook from time to time. Turbo oven fronts are typically made with see-through heatproof glass, so you’ll be able to see how your food cooks. The trick to successful turbo oven cooking, says epicurist Ann Greber, is to always monitor your food as it cooks. If you see the food needs a bit more cooking, restart the oven to cook for a few more minutes (e.g. additional 2 minutes) at the same temperature. When the food’s done, your oven should automatically turn off.

      Remove the hot oven lid carefully. Take the food off the rack or cooking platform with large tongs, and lay them onto the serving plate.
