Test the garage opener's current travel settings by opening and closing the door. Properly calibrated, the door travels downward and stops at the ground. On the way up it stops when fully open. The travel settings need adjustment if the door reverses after touching the ground or if it fails to fully open.
Stand on a stepladder beneath the opener's motor hanging from the garage ceiling and locate the travel limit switches on the left side of the unit. The upward and downward limit dials are marked by an icon depicting a garage rising or lowering with an arrow.
Turn the downward travel dial a full turn counterclockwise to remove 2 inches of downward travel, turn it clockwise a full turn to add 2 inches. Repeat the process for the upward travel dial if necessary, step down from the ladder and try the door again.
Make any additional changes, if necessary, to the travel limits based on how the door behaves. The door should stay on the ground when closed and fully rise when opened.
