Different Ways to Attach a Kitchen Sprayer

Sink Attachment

• Some kitchen sprayers are attached to the top surface of the sink, along the edge of the sink. Some sink manufacturers include the necessary holes to accommodate both the faucet and the sprayer. For those that don't include a hole for the sprayer, one can be added using a sink hole cutter or hole puncher.

Faucet Attachment

• A faucet attachment has a hose inside the faucet. This type of sprayer has a dual role: it works as a stationary faucet and also as a sprayer when you pull the end of the faucet off of its base. Some models automatically change from a stream of water to a sprayer when the faucet is detached from the faucet assembly. Others have a button on the nose of the faucet to change the water output from a stream to spraying water.

Hardware and Installation

• Generally, all sprayers are sold complete with the hardware required to install it. Tools needed to install the hardware include an adjustable wrench, slip-joint pliers, a basin wrench and plumber’s putty. The area under the sink should be cleared before installation and the water should be turned off at the shut-off valve. Use an old towel or large cotton rag to catch water in the pipes during the installation process.

Maintenance

• To keep the sprayer functioning properly, routine care and cleaning is required. Gently pull the sprayer from the sink or faucet so the hose isn’t damaged or bent. Avoid clogs from hard water deposits and lime scale buildup by soaking the sprayer head in a cleaning product that removes deposits. Use a nonabrasive cleaner and a soft cotton rag to clean it regularly.
