How to Replace a Glass Top Stove on a Whirlpool Accubake

Many Whirlpool ranges now include Accubake technology, which uses sensors to ensure an extremely accurate temperature inside the oven. Ranges with Accubake technology include a smooth-top stove, which has a smooth glass panel with burner elements hidden below. The panel is strong, but subject to damage if a heavy object is dropped on it or dragged across it. If the glass is damaged, it is unsafe to use the range until a new glass panel is installed.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the oven breaker in your home's service panel.

    • 2

Open the oven door, and then locate the screws under the front of the main top, which secure the top to the range.

    • 3

Remove the screws that secure the main top, and then close the oven door.

    • 4

Lift the main top, and then secure it in an upright position using a dowel rod.

    • 5

Remove the screws and brackets securing each burner to the underside of the glass top, and then lift the glass top up and off the range.

    • 6

Keep the brackets from the old glass panel on hand. You should be able to use the brackets included with the new glass panel to install it. But even though the panels are designed to fit a variety of Whirlpool ranges, sometimes, in order to insure a proper fit to your range, you may need to transfer the old brackets from the old glass panel to the new one.

    • 7

Place the new top on the range, and secure it in an upright position using the dowel rod.

    • 8

Reinstall the burners on the underside of the panel.

    • 9

Lower the main top, and secure it using the screws that you removed from the underside of the old glass top.

    • 10

      Restore power to the range.
