How to Replace an Oven Top for a Maytag Gemini Range Oven

Maytag Gemini ranges are available as gas or electric models, and have single or double ovens. Electric ranges have a ceramic stovetop, which provides a smooth, attractive surface. The ceramic is strong, but is not designed to withstand the stress of a heavy object being dropped onto it, which may cause it to crack or break. If the stovetop is damaged, you must discontinue use of the range, only resuming use after a new stovetop is installed.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the range's power cord from the wall outlet, or turn off the breaker in your home's service panel.

    • 2

Open the oven door, and then locate the screws that secure the main top to the range cabinet. The screws are located on the bottom of the front of the main top, where the top hangs slightly over the oven cavity.

    • 3

Remove the screws that secure the main top to the range cabinet, and then lift the main top up, exposing the burners below.

    • 4

Secure the main top in an elevated position using a sturdy object, such as a dowel rod, or have a partner hold the main top up.

    • 5

Remove the screws and brackets that secure each burner to the underside of the top.

    • 6

Lift the main top up and off of the range. Place the top face-down on a sturdy surface.

    • 7

Look at the bottom of the old top, and remove any brackets that are not present on the bottom of the new main top. Install the brackets on the underside of the new main top, using the screws that secured the brackets to the old main top.

    • 8

Place the new top on the range and secure it using a sturdy object.

    • 9

Reinstall the burners, using the burner brackets and screws to hold them in place.

    • 10

Lower the main top, and then reinstall the screws to secure it to the range cabinet.

    • 11

      Restore power to the range.
