How to Replace the Inner Glass of an Oven Door on a Frigidaire Crown

Frigidaire Crown electric ranges combine a smooth-top glass stove, as well as a single oven compartment. The oven door has a glass panel installed, which allows you to see inside of the oven with the door closed. If an object drops on the glass, the panel could crack or break, at which point you must install a new panel.
  1. Safety Precautions

    • Before beginning the repair it is important to disconnect the range's power supply so that the oven cannot be accidentally turned on with the door removed. Ensure that the oven is completely cool before performing repairs, and always wear leather-faced gloves when handling broken glass.

    Obtaining New Glass

    • Replacement glass panes are available from a wide variety of appliance parts retailers. To ensure that you purchase the correct sized glass pane for your Frigidaire Crown oven, it is important to know the model number. The model number is located on a sticker on the oven's doorjamb. Once the model number is known, enter it in the search box on the the appliance parts retailer's website to locate the exact components designed to work with your range.

    Oven Door Removal

    • To replace the oven glass, it is first necessary to remove the oven door. The oven door has two hinges that lock into the oven's doorjamb. Each hinge has a lock on it that prevents the oven door from being unintentionally removed from the oven. The hinges are flush against the doorjamb. To unlock the hinge locks, move them away from the doorjamb, toward the oven door. It may be necessary to use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the hinge locks away from the door. Once the hinges are unlocked, close the door to the broil-stop position, and then lift the door up and off of the range.

    Replacing the Panel

    • With the door placed face-down on a solid surface, remove the screws securing the door handles, from the top of the inner door panel, as well as the screws on the bottom of the door panel. With the screws removed, lift the inner door panel out of the outer door panel. The hinges are secured using two screws each. Remove the screws from the hinges, and then remove the hinges from the underside of the inner door panel. Flip the inner door panel over and remove the glass retainer panel screws, followed by the panel itself. With the panel removed, remove the insulation, glass frame and any remaining broken glass. Insert the new glass pane, and then reassemble the door by reversing the disassembly steps.
