How to Disconnect Baseboard Heaters

Many people use electric baseboard heaters to heat one or all rooms in their house. When you want to remove an electric baseboard heater, you must free it from the wall as well as disconnect all the electrical wiring. Most electric baseboard heaters have all their connections on one end. These connections include wiring to the power supply and the thermostat. If you plan to install a new electric baseboard heater, label the wiring before disconnecting it so you can rewire the new heater the same way.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off power to the electric baseboard heater from the main power supply source.

    • 2

Lift up the bottom edge of the heater's cover. Remove the cover's top edge from the mounting hooks to expose the wiring. Set the cover aside.

    • 3

Hold a circuit tester against the wiring to ensure no power is being supplied to them.

    • 4

Unscrew the wire nuts holding the wiring connections together. Separate each wire. Loosen the cable connector's screw with a Phillips screwdriver so the wires can move freely in and out of the electric baseboard heater.

    • 5

Remove the screws driven through the back of the electric baseboard heater and into the wall using a drill and Phillips driving bit.

    • 6

Pull the heater forward, away from the wall.
