How to Make a Dehumidifier Drain Into a Tube

Dehumidifiers remove the excess humidity from the air in your home. Most damp rooms, like basements and crawl spaces, need dehumidifiers to keep mold from growing or musty smells from developing. Dehumidifiers usually expel the excess water into a bucket that needs to be emptied once it full. However, with a simple fix you can get it to drain into a tube instead. This saves you the hassle of emptying it when it’s full.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your dehumidifier and unplug it from the power source.

    • 2

Empty the bucket the dehumidifier drains into.

    • 3

Look on the underside of the bucket. There should be an area to attach tubing or a hose. Screw the tube or hose onto that area of the bucket. If the tube doesn’t screw on you can place a clamp around the tube to hold it in place.

Place the other end of the tube or hose down a drain so it will automatically empty.
