How to Install Hinges on a GE Built-in Electric Oven

The door hinges on a General Electric (GE) built-in electric oven may be the appliance's most important components. Without them, the oven door doesn't close and the unit doesn't function. Many people think that all oven repair requires a professional technician. The door assembly on a built-in GE electric oven, however,is designed to be removed and replaced quickly. The same is true for the door hinges.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the oven, and open its door. Notice the hinges on the corners of the oven door. They are locked to the oven frame with metal latches or a lock.

    • 2

Flip the latches upward off the hinges, or turn the lock next to each hinge to release the oven door.

    • 3

Lift the oven door off the oven frame, and place it face down.

    • 4

Remove the screws from the back frame of the oven door. Remove the back frame, which exposes the metal hinge assemblies on each side of the door.

    • 5

Remove the screws on the hinge assemblies, and remove the hinges from the door.

    • 6

Place new hinges in the door, and replace the screws. Replace the back frame and screws.

    • 7

Fit the door back in the oven frame, and either turn the hinge locks or place the latches over the hinges.
