How to Install a GE Glass Top Range

Installation of your GE glass top range will only take a few minutes. You can use your range immediately once you've finished the installation process.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the opening for your GE range between your countertops, then measure the range itself to ensure it will fit. Depending on the GE range you select, they come in different sizes.

    • 2

Place a flat piece of the shipping box under the range to prevent scratching your floor.

    • 3

Ensure your kitchen is equipped with the proper electrical outlet to support the range. The range requires a 3-conductor or 4-conductor connection. If your kitchen does not have this connection, you may need to hire a licensed electrician to install one.

    • 4

Remove the two screws on the metal wire cover plate on the back of the range.

    • 5

Grasp the knockout ring with pliers and pull it upwards to remove it. The knockout ring is below the terminal block and is attached to the bracket.

    • 6

Slide the power cord into the strain-relief by sliding it up through the hole in the bottom of the bracket. The strain-relief sits above the hole in the bracket and the cord should first slide through the hole, then through the strain-relief.

    • 7

Tighten the screws on the strain-relief by using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 8

Attach the wires to the proper terminals by matching the colors of the wires to the same color terminal, then tighten the bolts to secure the connection.

    • 9

Replace the metal wire cover plate on the back of the range, then screw it back into place.

    • 10

Adjust the legs on the range to allow the glass top to clear your countertop. Use an adjustable wrench to raise or lower the range. Turn the legs counterclockwise to raise the legs and clockwise to lower the legs. You may need to slightly tilt the range to adjust the legs.

    • 11

Scoot the range back into the proper location until it clicks into the anti-tip bracket.

    • 12

Lower the legs until the glass top overhang sits level on the edge of your countertop.

    • 13

Plug the GE range’s power cord into your electrical outlet, then ensure the electrical breaker for the GE range, in your breaker box, is turned “On.”
