How to Connect a Cadet Baseboard Heater

Cadet baseboard heaters can be used in most rooms of your house. They have a knockout hole in their backside through which you feed electrical wires from the main power source and make the connections to the heater. The electrical connections are generally color coded, and the homeowner needs no special skills to complete them properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off power to the main power supply source. Use a circuit tester to check the wires you will be working with to ensure no power is being supplied to them.

    • 2

Run a stud finder along the wall on which you wish to install the Cadet heater. Mark the wall studs with a pencil. You will want to position the heater so at least two of the star punches on the backside are over a stud.

    • 3

Slide off the Cadet heater's side cover. On the same side, insert a flathead screwdriver into the knockout tab's slot. Turn the screwdriver to remove the knockout. Insert a strain-relief connector into the knockout hole. Feed the electrical wires coming from the main power supply through the connector and tighten the connector's screw.

    • 4

Hold the Cadet baseboard heater against the wall and drive four 1/2-inch wood screws through the star punches and into the wall studs. Cut the end off each supply wire and strip about 1/2-inch of rubber coating off the cut ends with wire strippers to expose new wiring.

    • 5

Bend the green supply wire into a hook and wrap it around the grounding screw on the Cadet baseboard heater. Tighten the grounding screw with a Phillips screwdriver to hold the wire in place.

    • 6

Disconnect one of the Cadet baseboard heater's factory connections and separate the two wires. Connect the black double-pole thermostat wire to the black factory wire you just disconnected. Tighten a wire nut over the two wires.

    • 7

Hold the thermostat's red wire together with the black wire coming from the power supply. Tighten a wire nut over the two wires. Hold the white factory wire you disconnected in Step 6 together with the white power supply wire and tighten a wire nut over them.

    • 8

Tuck the wire into the baseboard heater and hold the thermostat against the Cadet baseboard heater. Secure it in place with the provided screws. Restore power to the main supply wires.
