Check the propane tank to see that you still have fuel and ensure that the gas shutoff valve is in the "On" position if the spark ignitor won’t light the pilot after you repeatedly press the red button. Call a technician to replace the igniter if it’s defective.
Check the thermocouple connection at the gas valve and tighten it securely if it is loose at all and the pilot won’t remain lit after you’ve followed the lighting instructions. Hand-tighten the thermocouple, plus one-quarter turn, to ensure it’s on tight.
Inspect the pilot light and adjust it if it’s too low or too high and you have frequent pilot outages.
Adjust your log set if the flames from the burner seem to impinge on it and you’re getting soot buildup on the glass. Also, adjust the air shutter at the base of the burner to establish efficient airflow.
Inspect the vent cap and vent system joints to ensure everything is secure and you have no leaks if the flame lifts up of the burner and burns continuously blue.
