Information on Regina Vacuum Cleaner Bags

Although the Regina Company went bankrupt and closed in 1995, many of its vacuums are still used to clean up spills and sweep away grime in houses across the United States. Bags for a number of models continue to be available from many sources, primarily online retailers.
  1. Regina Vacuums

    • Regina was one of the first vacuum companies, beginning to manufacture vacuums in the early 20th century, starting with canister models. By the 1930s, the company began selling upright models and in the 1940s started offering the Electrikbroom, one of the first narrow "stick" vacuums. In the next few decades, Regina branched into cleaning products and other home appliances. Vacuum models released in the 1980s included the Regina HouseKeeper, the first upright model in which tools could be stored on the vacuum itself. But the company began having financial problems in the 1990s. After Regina declared bankruptcy in 1995, Phillips Electronics bought the remaining inventory. Just two years later, Oreck purchased the company. Eventually, what were once Regina vacuums were sold under the Home Depot brand in the early 2000s.

    Types of Bags

    • Four primary kinds of Regina vacuum cleaner bags are still available. Type H fits the original Regina HouseKeeper model, while Type P works with the Regina HouseKeeper Plus and Ultra. Type T fits Regina vacuum model HDU600, and Type U can be used with models HDU200 and HDU500.

    Where to Buy Bags

    • Don't expect to buy bags for most Regina vacuums at a local hardware or discount store. Only the Type U bags, which also fit some Dirt Devil models, may be available in stores. Many online retailers offer Types H, P, T and U bags in packages of three, five or seven. Some sell the bags packaged with replacement filters for the vacuums. Sources for bags include Amazon.com, VacuumBags.com, OnlineVacshop.com and Vacuum Outlet.com.

    Vacuum Bag Tips

    • Vacuum bags should be changed every one to three months to maintain optimal performance and air flow. Bags also have a fill line at about 60 percent of the bag's capacity. Before starting to vacuum, check how full the bag is to prevent overfilling.
