How to Change the Height of a Propane Burner on a Stovetop

Your propane stovetop uses a flame to operate the burner. Occasionally, the flame’s height is too low or too high, and this can interfere with cooking. The flame’s height should never reach the side of the cookware; it should only touch the bottom of the cookware. Adjusting the height of the flame only takes a few minutes and you can adjust it as frequently as you think is necessary.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift off the burner grates and burner caps from all of the burners.

    • 2

Open the cooktop by lifting up the front end, and then secure the cooktop by allowing the hinges to lock into place.

    • 3

View the burner air shutters at the front of the stove. The shutters look like small vents with a small cover plate that has a screw in the center.

    • 4

Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screw on each shutter’s plate to increase the flame. Do not remove the screw. Loosening the screw on the plate will open the shutter up more to increase airflow.

    • 5

Tighten the screw on the shutter’s plate to decrease the airflow. Decreasing the airflow will decrease the flame. Do not close the shutter completely.

    • 6

Turn on the burner to “High” to test the flame. If you are satisfied with the flame, turn the burner off and close the cooktop. If you are not satisfied, turn the burner off and adjust the screw again.

    • 7

Replace the burner caps and the burner grates.
