How to Do a Master Reset on a Bosch Fire Alarm

Founded in 1886, the Bosch Group is a German appliance and security-system manufacturing company that distributes its products worldwide. The North American division of Bosch Security offers a wide array of residential and commercial security systems with fire-alarm features. You can reset your Bosch security system to clear the event memory after a false alarm. If the fire alarm malfunctions, a master reset returns the system to factory-default settings in just seconds.
  1. Master-Code Reset

    • A two-digit user code and four-digit personal identification number allows you to access the control panel. The master, or programmer, code provides free reign over the entire system, enabling the user to silence alarms, reset, disable and program the unit. The factory-programmed master code is "00 9876." Although "00" is always used to designate the master code, you can customize the four PIN digits. Press the "0," "2" and "1" buttons to enter the code-programming mode, then press "1" again to program the master code. Enter a four-digit PIN of your choosing and press the "#/Enter" button to save your changes.

    Control-Panel Reset

    • After the fire system sounds a false alarm, you can press the "Silence" button to quiet the warning bells and horns. However, the alarm notification remains on the display until the control panel is reset. This type of reset clears the event memory and disrupts the electricity to the detectors, allowing them to reboot. Resetting the control panel is simple: Just press and hold the "Reset" button on the panel for one second, then release it.

    Smoke-Detector Reset

    • The smoke-reset feature lets you briefly turn off the power to the smoke detectors to prevent them from immediately sounding another alarm. Press the "0," "3" and "2" buttons to access the programming mode, then press "1" to select "Smoke Reset." You can disrupt the electricity for one to 16 seconds; the detectors won't register an alarm for an additional five seconds after the power is restored. Type the desired smoke detector delay time and press "#/Enter."

    Master-System Reset

    • If your Bosch fire-alarm system experiences a malfunction that isn't resolved with a control-panel reset, you can perform a master reset to restore factory-default settings. Although a master reset clears the system of malfunctions, it also deletes any previous programming or zone configurations. Press "0" and "8" to access the "History Defaults" menu; press "2" to select "Default EE." Immediately after the master reset, turn the power to the unit on and off to reinstall the zone extenders.
