Troubleshooting Tips for a Bosch Rexroth A2VK28

The Rexroth A2VK28 is an axial piston pump produced by Bosch and Rexroth for a number of engine applications. An axial pump has an odd number of pistons attached to a cylinder block that rotates pistons around as the engine works in order to generate power. These units can be used for basic pumping mechanisms, more advanced cooling units, or for specific hydraulic systems designed to provide force through compressed liquids. Troubleshooting a Rexroth pump generally falls into several major categories, including leak problems and oil issues.
  1. Leaks

    • When dealing with complex hydraulic engines, leaks are always an issue. If the pressure fluid temperature registers too high, then gaps and seal breaks in the hydraulic cylinder could produce leaks. Flow control valves might have failed, or the pump pressure might have been set too high and is interfering with proper primary pressure valve operation. Many types of wear and tear can cause inner leakage around the variable pump, so a thorough check for damage or old components can help pinpoint the problem.

    Clogs

    • Dirt can enter the variable pump and create too much friction for pressure to maintain a steady rate, and it can also create noise or rattling sounds in the pump. If you have a high-pressure filter, it might have become too contaminated, leading to jammed valves that will need to be cleaned or replaced. Pressure valves, bypass valves, and post-suction valves can all fall victim to clogging issues, creating either no flow or very low flow.

    Oil Levels

    • If no pressure is in the system, especially from the container hydraulic fluid not being used in the lines, then your oil level might simply be too low. This could be accompanied by gap leaking, so check your oil levels before trying to replace any parts. The Rexroth pump also needs a certain amount of ventilation to work properly. Check your tank ventilation to ensure it has not been covered up, interfering with oil flow.

    Failures

    • A number of failures can occur in the Rexroth pump engine, including fastening issues, high rotation speeds that lead to damage, and wear on bearings or misalignment that is causing too much friction. These problems typically cause loud and irregular noises and will affect the quality of your system. Replacing damaged parts properly, ensuring your engine is rotating correctly and lubricated, can reduce the frequency of these failures. If you cannot find the failed part yourself, take the pump unit to an expert.
