Installation Instructions for an Appalachian Stove Model 32

Fireplace Preparation

  Move furniture, rugs and other objects away from the fireplace.

  Put drop cloths around the floor and hearth to mitigate damage during installation.

  Clean the firebox floor of ashes. Block or remove the fireplace damper plate.

  Inspect firebox and flue for any physical damage such as cracks, deteriorating mortar joints and excessive creosote buildup. Ensure the flue is clean.

  Close and seal the ash dump.

Trim Panel Installation

  Attach top trim panel using the trim panel brackets and self-tapping screws.

• 7

  Slide side trim panels onto the top trim panel and secure it with self-tapping screws.

  Put the insulation panel on the back of the trim panels.

Freestanding Installation

• 9

  Inspect composition of the wall structure to ensure it is not combustible, such as a wooden frame construction. There also needs to be a minimum clearance of 30 inches from the back of your Model 32 to the wall, 32 inches from the center of the stove to the wall, and 20 inches from the side of the stove to the wall.

  Place 3/8-inch fireproof millboard or equivalent on the floor where your combustible stove will be installed. The location must be relatively close to the chimney connection point.

  Drill out the screws holding the wooden blocks under the stove. Remove the blocks.

  Place the pedestal on the bottom of the stove with the “turned in” flanges against the stove. Align the front flange corners with the outside stove corners.

  Screw the pedestal onto the stove bottom.

  Attach the stove pipe to the chimney connection, using no more than one elbow duct.

Fireplace Installation

  Remove combustible materials at least 12 inches away from the stove installation area and 9 inches from the trim panels. There needs to be a minimum of 12 inches of floor protection in front of the stove and 3/8-inch fireproof millboard or equivalent for masonry or factory built fireplaces. A minimum of 16 inches from the stove to the bottom of a combustible material is required.

  Center the stove with the fireplace opening and push it in until the trim panels seal against the fireplace.

  Check the stove's damper opening and make sure it's behind the lintel.
