Why Won't a Kenmore Oven Shut off?

Kenmore ovens offer traditional baking and some have convection cooking, preheating, broiling and warming features. The oven is programmed to automatically shut off after 12 hours to save energy and as a safety measure. However, if the oven does not shut off even when programmed to turn off or after 12 hours, some troubleshooting is needed.
  1. Operating the Oven

    • When you are finished cooking, remember to press “Stop” to turn off the oven. Even when the cooking timer has been set, the oven will not automatically turn off when the timer finishes. The oven control will beep three times every 30 seconds when the programmed cook time has ended. Push “Stop” to turn off the oven temperature and stop the beeping.

    Sabbath Mode

    • Many of the Kenmore ovens offer a Sabbath Mode feature, which keeps the oven on continuously until the mode is cancelled. This mode overrides the automatic 12-hour shutoff and must be manually stopped in order to turn off the oven. Touch “Cook Time” and “Delay Start” at the same time for three seconds to turn the Sabbath feature off.

    Oven Lockout

    • When the oven is on, but the control key pads will not operate and the oven will not shut off, the oven lockout mode may be active. This mode prevents use of the oven, including changing the oven temperature or shutting the oven off, until the lock is released. Cancel the lockout mode by pushing “Stop” for three seconds until “Loc” no longer appears on the display. Then press “Stop” again to cancel any active oven functions.

    Reset

    • Sometimes the Kenmore oven may remain on due to an error with the oven control panel or electronic oven control. Try disconnecting the power cord or resetting the circuit breaker and leaving the power off for 15 minutes to 30 minutes, then restore power. The oven power should return but the oven temperature should not remain on. Disconnect power again and contact Kenmore if the oven remains on even after performing a reset.
