My Maytag Range Ignitor Is Not Clicking

When your Maytag gas range’s ignitor clicks, it creates a spark that ignites the natural or liquid propane gas that flows through your appliance. Each burner has its own ignitor and the oven has one as well. If an ignitor doesn’t click, the problem could be electrical or a faulty ignitor.
  1. Controls

    • Your Maytag gas range ignites the gas into a flame when you turn the knob to “Ignite.” Your ignitor won’t click and create a spark without this simple action. Many new appliance owners, however, don’t realize that a common safety feature can prevent you from igniting a flame unless you push the knobs in while turning them counterclockwise. The fact that you’re not doing this may be the reason your ignitor isn’t clicking.

    Electricity

    • Your gas range may need gas service to produce a flame but the ignitor that sparks the flame is electric. Therefore, if your range isn’t getting electricity to it, your ignitor won’t click. First, verify that you’re not experiencing a power outage. Then, check that the range is plugged into a working outlet. Finally, check the circuit breaker box to verify that the breaker doesn’t need a reset.

    Faulty Ignitor

    • In some cases, the reason your ignitor isn’t clicking is that the part is faulty. It’s a simple replacement but the process can vary depending on the model of your Maytag range. Review your service manual, which will give detailed specific information for your model.

    Calling for Service

    • For Maytag gas ranges still under warranty, fixing it yourself isn’t an option. Allowing anyone to work on your unit who is not a Maytag certified repair technician can void your warranty. So contact Maytag customer support before you attempt to replace your ignitor to ask about your warranty. Schedule a service call if your warranty prevents you from making repairs or you just feel more comfortable having a professional do it.
