My Frigidaire Oven is Not Unlocking

Frigidaire ovens, whether a separate unit installed into a wall or a part of a freestanding range, often have a door lock feature. The feature prevents the door from opening for safety reasons. For example, an oven lock feature prevents children from opening the appliance. But, if the lock prevents adults from opening the oven, you may have a problem. A Frigidaire oven that won’t unlock could be suffering from user error or a broken latch.
  1. Check the Controls

    • If your Frigidaire oven door won’t open and won’t unlock, the first place to check for issues is the lock controls. Depending on the model of the your oven or range, your door lock could be on the actual oven door, on a knob on the controls or a button on the control panel. If you’re unsure of where the lock control is on your unit, refer to the use and care manual or contact Frigidaire to download one.

    Self-cleaning Cycle

    • If you’re sure you’re unlocking the door correctly, check what mode your oven is in. If your oven has a self-cleaning feature, the door locks during the cycle to prevent you from accidentally injuring yourself. If your model has a display screen, it might say something similar to “Clean.” The door won’t open even if you’re using the correct lock/unlock procedure. The only way to release the door is to turn off the self-clean cycle, which means either turning the knob to “Off” or press the “Off” button on the control panel.

    Broken Latch

    • If you’re using the controls correctly and the self-cleaning cycle isn’t running, it’s possible your door latch is broken. The process can vary by model, but you generally have to remove the door from the unit and then disassemble it to replace the latch mechanism. You can order a new part from a Frigidaire parts distributor and use the service manual to guide you in replacing it.

    Contacting Frigidaire
