My Kenmore Built-in Oven Will Not Turn On

Kenmore built-in ovens are available in a variety of models and sizes. With regular usage, you can encounter performance problems with your oven, regardless of the model or size. When the oven does not power on for you, the problem is one that you can troubleshoot on your own. Doing so may save you the time and expense of a service call.
  1. Check House Breakers

    • For an oven that will not power on, a common problem is a tripped breaker, or blown fuse. Take a look in your home’s breaker box or fuse box to determine whether this the cause of your problem. If so, to reset the breaker or replace the fuse. Once you do this, the oven should power on.

    Check Power Outlet

    • If your breaker box or fuse box is fine, the cause of the problem may be a bad power outlet. If your oven is not hard wired but connected via a power cord to the outlet, you can test it. Unplug the oven from the outlet and test a different appliance in it, such as a toaster. This lets you know if the outlet is bad or the oven is bad. For an oven that is hard wired, you will have to consult with a local electrician if you think the power supply is the cause of problem.

    Check Control Board

    • Examine the control panel on the oven to determine whether it is working at all. Look to see whether it lights up. If so, the electrical control board is not the cause of the problem. However, if it does not light up, it is faulty. It should be removed and repaired. A qualified Kenmore appliance technician can test the control board, remove it and repair it for you.

    Check Igniter System

    • If your control panel lights up, the problem may be related to the oven’s igniter system. Pull out your broiler drawer so you can see the glow bar igniter system. If it glows but does not heat when you try to ignite the oven, it is faulty. If it does not glow, a different internal component may be to blame, such as faulty wiring or the safety gas valve. A qualified Kenmore appliance technician can diagnose the specific cause of the problem and have it repaired for you.
