How to Remove the Control Door on a Rheem Furnace

The Rheem Manufacturing Company has been producing commercial and residential heating equipment since the 1940s. If your Rheem furnace malfunctions, you can remove the furnace control door to gain access to the burner components. Rheem includes grab holes on the control door to make the removal process simple and convenient. Once the control door is off, you can troubleshoot or repair the burner, ignitor, gas valve or limit switches.

Instructions

    • 1

Switch the corresponding circuit breaker to the "Off" position to turn off the electrical supply to the furnace.

    • 2

Locate the control door on your Rheem furnace. This is the top front panel on upflow models, the bottom front panel on downflow models and the right front panel on horizontal models.

    • 3

Grasp the grab-hole on the furnace control door. Lift the door straight up and pull it toward you to clear the retaining clips on the sides and bottom of the furnace cabinet.

    • 4

Lean the removed control door against the side of the furnace while you complete your troubleshooting or repairs.
