How to Replace the Glass on a Maytag Gemini Double Oven

Many models of Maytag Gemini ranges are double-oven models, which have two separate oven compartments. The advantage of two oven compartments is that they can be set to different temperatures, which is useful when preparing two items at once. Maytag Gemini electric ranges have a glass-top stovetop. The panel is strong, but not indestructible. If a heavy item, such as a cast iron skillet, is dropped onto or dragged across the stovetop, the glass will be damaged. When the glass is damaged, you must discontinue use of the range until a new glass panel is installed.

  Unplug the range from the wall outlet, or turn off the breaker in your home's service panel.

  Open the top oven door, and locate the screws that secure the stovetop to the range. The screws are located on the underside of the front of the glass panel, and they are accessible with the door open.

  Remove the screws, and close the oven door.

  Lift the stovetop and secure it in an elevated position using a support rod, or have a partner hold it up.

  Remove the screws and brackets securing burners to the underside of the stovetop, and place them on the surface below.

  Lift the stovetop off of the range. Place it upside down on a flat, solid surface.

  Remove the screws securing any brackets installed on the bottom of the stovetop that are not pre-installed on the underside of the new stovetop. Transfer the brackets to the new stovetop as needed.

  Place the new stovetop onto the range, and secure it using the support rod.
- 9
  Reinstall the burners using the screws and brackets that were removed.
- 10
  Lower the stovetop, and secure it to the range cabinet using the screws removed from the replaced stovetop.

  Restore the range's power supply.
