How to Troubleshoot a Lennox Healthy Climate WB2-12

The Lennox Healthy Climate WB2-12 is a humidifier designed for whole home use. The unit is operated by a manual humidistat somewhere in the home that can be changed prior to a drop in outdoor temperature to maintain a comfortable level of humidity within the home. However, if problems with condensation or humidity levels occur when the humidifier is in operation, some troubleshooting may be effective.

Instructions

Change the humidistat at least several hours prior to the expected temperature change if excess condensation appears on surfaces within the home after the temperature changes. For example, the humidistat may be set to 35 percent relative humidity (RH) if the temperature is approximately 20 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature is expected to drop to 0 degrees Fahrenheit that night, change the humidistat to 25% percent RH in the hours before the temperature change.

    • 2

Close fireplace dampers if the heat and/or humidity in the home seems to be escaping and the RH level does not seem accurate.

    • 3

Turn the humidistat dial to the lowest possible setting if you are unsure of the relative humidity in the home and do not know where to the set the humidifier. Once the dial is at the lowest setting, slowly reverse the dial until a click is audible. Look to see the RH reading on the dial when the click is heard. This is an accurate RH reading for your home.

Adjust the humidistat above the click point if you are not certain that the humidifier is operating correctly. Open the water saddle valve and ensure the power cord is plugged in firmly to an electrical outlet. Turn on the furnace blower motor and wait several minutes, after which the water should enter the humidifier and move through the drain. Turn the control dial back below the click point, allowing the humidifier to turn off. Turn the humidistat setting to the recommended setting depending upon the outside temperature. Recommendations are as follows: Recommended RH is 45 percent for an outdoor temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit; 40 percent for 30 degrees; 35 percent for 20 degrees; 30 percent for 10 degrees; 25 percent for 0 degrees; 20 percent for negative 10 degrees; and 15 percent for negative 20 degrees.

Perform basic service maintenance if the humidifier does not seem to be operating as expected. Disconnect power to the unit and then disconnect the water line at the inlet compression nut. Take the in-line strainer from the side of the valve, using a small paper clip or nail. Flush the in-line strainer until water runs clear and inspect the strainer for damage. Contact Lennox for a replacement strainer if needed. Re-install the in-line strainer and reconnect the inlet water line, using a double wrench to tighten firmly. Disconnect the water line at the outlet compression nut and disconnect the orifice from the copper tube. This opening should be unplugged. Clean as necessary and then replace the orifice, reconnect the water line, using the double wrench to tighten. Reconnect the water line and power.
