Pull the stove forward and unplug it -- or turn the breaker off that powers the stove.
Open the oven door and look under the ledge for the two screws at the corners that hold the range top in place. Set the screws aside.
Lift up the range top and slide it forward a few inches to expose the wiring underneath. Use a screwdriver to disconnect the wiring connecting the range top to the stove. Set the screws aside.
Remove the stove top and set it face down on several folded towels.
Disconnect the broken burner. Set aside the screws and ensure all wires are disconnected before removing the burner.
Insert the replacement burner and reconnect the wiring. Flip the stove top right side up, and set it onto the range. Leave space to reconnect the wiring.
Slide the top back and open the oven door to replace the screws that hold the top in place. Reset the breaker or plug the stove back in and test the new burner.
