How to Replace a Ceramic GE Profile

GE Profile ranges are available in gas, electric and dual-fuel models. Electric ranges have a ceramic stove-top panel that has several burners below the surface. The ceramic panel gives you a flat surface on which to work in your kitchen. If a heavy object is dragged across or dropped onto the ceramic panel, the panel can be scratched or broken. If that happens, you must remove it and install a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the range's power source, either by unplugging the range from the wall outlet, or turning off the breaker in your home's service panel.

    • 2

Open the oven door and remove the screws from the underside of the front of the ceramic panel. Close the oven door.

    • 3

Lift the panel up and then secure it using a sturdy object, such as a dowel rod, or have a partner hold the panel up.

    • 4

Remove the screws and brackets from each burner to remove the burners from the underside of the panel.

    • 5

Lift the panel up and off the range.

    • 6

Look at the brackets installed on the underside of the old panel; they are secured using screws. Transfer them to the underside of the new panel, if needed.

    • 7

Place the new panel on top of the range and secure it in an elevated position.

    • 8

Reinstall the burners using the screws and brackets that were removed.

    • 9

Lower the new ceramic top, and then secure it using the screws on the underside of the front of the top.

    • 10

      Restore power to the range.
