How to Install Tilt Brackets to a Stove

Free-standing kitchen stoves pose a potential safety hazard because they can tip forward and cause injury. To prevent the stove from tipping, you can install tilt brackets on the rear wall behind the stove. These brackets anchor the stove feet in place, even when force is exerted on the front of the stove.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • 1/8-inch drill bit
  • Safety glasses
  • Screwdriver or power drill
  • Plastic wall anchors (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Grasp both sides of the stove and pull it forward away from the wall. Be careful not to disturb any of the wiring. Unplug the stove’s electrical cord, if necessary, to give yourself enough space in which to work.

    • 2

Look at the back of the stove to locate the two rear feet. Measure the distance between them using a tape measure.

    • 3

Kneel down in the area behind the stove and use the tape measure to make a pencil mark on the floor and wall to designate the location of the two stove feet.

    • 4

Place a tilt bracket over the center of each pencil mark and use the pencil to draw a circle in each screw hole. Two holes are located in the floor, and two holes are located in the wall.

    • 5

Set the brackets aside and install a 1/8-inch drill bit into a drill. If the floor or wall is concrete or masonry, use a 1/8-inch masonry drill bit.

    • 6

Don safety glasses and create a 1-inch-deep hole in each marked location in the floor and in the wall.

    • 7

Align the brackets over the holes and insert the provided screws into the holes in the wall and the floor, using a power drill. Once you insert the screws fully, grasp the brackets with your hand and see if they move. If the brackets move at all, tighten the screws further.

Plug the stove’s electrical cord back into the wall outlet. Slide the stove back into position so that the rear legs slide into the brackets.
