How to Insulate an Oil-Fired Boiler

Many people know that it’s economical to insulate their hot water cylinder. If your hot water tank doesn't have an insulation jacket, it will cost you more to keep your water warm. The same is true, to a slightly lesser degree, of oil-fired boilers. If you have an oil-fired boiler in a particularly cold part of your house or outside, it's going to use more energy to fire up than if it were warm. Insulating your boiler will make it more efficient and save you money.

     Measure the dimensions of your boiler and make a note of them.

     Purchase enough purpose-made mineral wool pipe and tank insulation to wrap around your boiler. You'll also need a number of adjustable straps to secure it into place. You can buy insulation wrap at larger hardware stores or from specialty suppliers online.

     Wrap your boiler with the mineral wool insulation material and secure it into place with straps. Make sure you can still easily access any controls on your boiler.
