How to Connect Control Cables to a Craftsman Lawn Mower

Before you can use your Craftsman lawn mower for the first time there are some parts that must be assembled, such as the upper and lower mower handles. For example, the control cable is a part that must be manually connected to the lower handle. The control cable and cable tie come with the lawn mower, and once the cable is attached, you will be able to control the speed of the mower.

Instructions

    • 1

Raise the lower handle up on your Craftsman lawn mower and it will snap into place.

    • 2

Remove the hairpin clip from the outer pinhole on the left side of the lower handle by pulling it out with your hand. The pinholes are small metal pieces on the bottom end of each side of lower handle, and the hairpin clip is initially attached to the outer pinhole for shipping purposes.

    • 3

Insert the hairpin clip into the inner hole of the pin on the bottom left side of the lower handle side of the handle. Use needle-nose pliers.

    • 4

Remove the hairpin clip from the outer hole of the pin on the right side of the lower handle the same way you did with the left side, then insert the hairpin clip into the inner pinhole so that it connects.

    • 5

Raise the upper handle and then tighten the wing nuts on the handle with your hand.

    • 6

Connect the control cable to the lower handle using a cable tie, which should already be on the lower handle if you're assembling your mower for the first time.

    • 7

Pull tight on the cable and cut off any extra lag on the cable using metal clippers. The cable will then be connected.
