How to Replace the Temperature Control of a Haier Freezer

The temperature control on a Haier freezer is an adjustable thermostatic unit with a temperature probe on the end that monitors the freezer. If the control malfunctions, it cannot be repaired, only replaced. The temperature control is sold as a unit with the probe on the end of a flexible line. Replacing the part typically takes less than an hour using basic tools. New temperature controls are available at appliance repair stores and through online dealers.

Instructions

      Unplug the Haier's power cord. leave the freezer closed to prevent thawing the food inside.

      Pull the knob straight off the temperature control.

      Remove the screws on the control panel with a screwdriver. Pull out the panel carefully to avoid breaking any of the wires connected to the back.

      Use pliers to remove the nut holding the temperature control to the back of the control panel.

      Slide off the two wires connected to the temperature control. Note the position of each wire for connecting them later.

      Follow the path of the cable connected to the temperature probe on the temperature control. Pull the probe out of its socket in the freezer. You can now remove the entire temperature control assembly, pulling it from the back of the Haier control panel.

      Insert the shaft on the new temperature control through the hole in the back of the control panel. Twist on the metal nut to the threaded tube on the back of the temperature control until tight. This holds the control in place on the back of the control panel.

      Insert the probe on the end of the new control into the socket in the freezer.

      Push the two wires' slide-on connectors onto the terminals of the new temperature control.

      Place the control panel in position on the freezer and secure it with screws.

      Slide the knob onto the temperature control shaft.

      Plug in the freezer.
