How to Fix a Leak in a 5-Gallon Electric Water Dispenser

Address a leaking electric water dispenser promptly to prevent moisture damage to your flooring. If the system starts to leak, it's often caused by a problem with the faucet or the water tank. Most fixes you can resolve on your own. But with more serious issues, which are usually related to dispenser parts, you may need to call the dealer for assistance.

Remove the water tank. Pull or press the button or lever several times until it releases. Sometimes, the button or lever sticks and the water continues to release from the spigot. On some models, the faucet and spring may become defective. First, try removing the faucet and spring. Reinstall it. Contact the dealer for replacement parts if the faucet continues to leak. Remove the old faucet assembly and replace it.

Remove the water tank. Reinstall it if you notice leaks around the bottom of the tank or on the floor. Tightly screw the tank into position to prevent leaks. If the water tank is not properly seated, the tank may leak.

Inspect the tank for holes, if the leaking around the floor or bottom of the tank continues. Remove the tank from the dispenser to inspect it closely. Even a small hole can cause a large amount of water to leak. Replace the tank, if you find a hole.
