How to Connect a Water Pump on the Water Boiler

Water pumps designed for heating connect to a boiler to deliver a steady supply of water under pressure to a household. The boiler heats and distributes hot water typically for use in baseboard and steam-type radiators. The circulator pump runs on a standard electrical circuit and connects to the dedicated electrical outlet on the boiler unit with a two-prong plug. Hooking up the water pump takes less than an hour using basic tools.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to the water boiler at the circuit breaker and wait for the equipment to cool until it is safe to touch.

    • 2

Shut off the main valve that supplies water to the boiler. Put a bucket below the outlet pipe on the boiler to catch water.

    • 3

Unscrew the coupling on the pipe at the point where it connects to the boiler. Water will spill into the bucket. Empty and remove the bucket after catching all the water.

    • 4

Wrap heat-treated plumber's tape on the threads of the pipe emerging from the boiler. Connect the intake hose on the pump to the wrapped pipe and tighten the coupling on the end of the hose with the wrench.

    • 5

Wrap the detached pipe with plumber's tape and connect the output hose on the pump to this pipe. Tighten the connection with the wrench.

    • 6

Bend the flexible metal bracket to fit around the cube shape of the pump. Secure the bracket to the wall with the supplied screws or bolts through the holes in the bracket. The pump should have minimal movement once it is secured with the bracket.

    • 7

Restore water flow to the boiler at the cut-off valve.

    • 8

Turn on the boiler once water is flowing to the unit.

    • 9

Plug in the pump's power cord to the dedicated socket on the boiler unit and turn on the switch next to the socket.
