How to Reset the Timer on an Aqua Soft Water Softener

Aqua Soft water softeners are designed with two basic styles of control heads. The basic models regenerate according to a set schedule. Econominder models regenerate when a certain number of gallons of water have passed through the softener. If you don’t think the softener is operating the way you would like it to, you can reset the regeneration settings. You also will have to check and reset the clock if the electrical supply was disrupted by a power outage or pulled plug.

Instructions

Connect the electrical power to the softener. It is OK to change the settings with the softener plugged in and the power on. Locate the control head of the softener at the very top of the taller, thin resin tank. The mechanical controls may be covered by a plastic cover; if so, lift the cover off and set it aside.

Locate the timer wheel on the front of the softener control head. On the left of the large center wheel is a small red button. Push the red button to allow the larger 24-hour timer wheel to spin. Slowly rotate the timer till the present time of day is lined up with the arrow at the bottom of the timer wheel.

Find the skipper wheel just to the right of the timer wheel. This wheel determines how often the softener will regenerate. You can set this wheel to make the softener regenerate more or less often. Lift the pins to the outward position on the days you want it to regenerate. Usually, two to three regenerations per week are sufficient, but you can set it to regenerate more or less often depending on the water usage in your home. Replace the plastic cover.

    Econominder Models

Determine if you have an Econominder model. If so, the timer is set in the same way as on the basic model. Make sure the electrical power is connected to the softener. Find the control head at the very top of the taller, thin resin tank. If the mechanical controls are covered by a plastic cover, lift the cover off and set it aside.

Find the program wheel just to the right of the timer wheel. Gently pull the people dial toward you and rotate it until the number of people living in your home lines up with the appropriate grains of water hardness on the water hardness scale. For example, if you have three people living in your home and the water is 13 grains of hardness, turn the dial so the "3" lines up with the "13." Replace the plastic cover.
