My Magic Chef Microwave Won't Make Popcorn

Magic Chef microwaves are typically smaller microwaves that are designed to perform simple actions -- such as heat up food and pop microwaveable popcorn. If you find that your Magic Chef microwave is not making popcorn, but is heating up other foods and liquids, there may be a few things you can do to remedy the problem so that popcorn cooks as effectively as other foods.
  1. Prepackaged Bags

    • Place only prepackaged microwaveable popcorn in the microwave. Magic Chef microwaves are not able to pop other types of popcorn.

    Follow Directions

    • The popcorn bag that you place inside the microwave will typically include some kind of instructions about how you should insert it into the microwave. Pay special attention to the "This side up" messages on one side of the bag to make sure that the bag is properly placed in the appliance.

    Limits

    • Place only one bag of popcorn in the microwave at a time. Although it may seem to be more time and energy efficient to place multiple bags at once into the microwave, Magic Chef microwaves do not produce enough power to effectively pop more than one bag of popcorn at time.

    Reuse

    • Do not try to place partially popped bags back into the microwave or to pop kernels that you removed from another bag. Magic Chef microwaves were not designed to pop kernels that are not inside of a sealed, microwaveable bag.

    Auto Cook

    • The popcorn auto cook pad is designed to cook a 3.5-ounce bag of popcorn. If you place a bag of popcorn that is larger than 3.5 ounces into the microwave, the microwave is unlikely to be able to pop as effectively as it could. When the timer ends, the popcorn may only be partially popped or not popped at all.
