How to Install Anchors in a KitchenAid Microwave

The anchors or anti-tip brackets supplied with your KitchenAid microwave prevent the oven from tipping forward when it's mounted inside a cabinet or nook. Unsecured microwaves could lift if even a small amount of weight is applied to the open door. Usually added during installation, the anchors are practical safety devices that help prevent injury. Attaching the anchors is straightforward using common household tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the paper template supplied with the oven in the exact position you intend to install the microwave. The markings on the template correspond to the holes and brackets on the underside of the appliance. Tape the template in position.

    • 2

Mark through the template with a pencil the positions of the anchor's screw holes. Drill through the template using a 5/16-inch bit to make holes for the anchor's screws.

    • 3

Remove the template and place the anchor is position. Tighten the pair of 1/2-inch screws that hold the bracket in position. When you slide the oven back into position, ensure the tab on the bottom of the oven hooks through the anchor.
