How to Install a Vertical Microwave Vent

When installing an over-the-range microwave you need to take into account space for the vent. Since the vents on these particular microwaves are located on the top, you will need a vertical vent where the top of the microwave attaches. If a vertical vent isn't in place on the cabinet where you intend to mount the microwave, you can cut one out yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Tape measure

Instructions

    • 1

Open the cabinet above the microwave, locate the microwave power cable and unplug it.

    • 2

Remove the mounting bolts that run through the cabinet into the top of the microwave.

    • 3

Pull the microwave off of the metal rear mount and place the microwave on the counter.

    • 4

Measure the vent area on the top of the microwave and mark the dimensions on the bottom of the cabinet.

    • 5
