How to Install a Frigidaire Microhood

The Frigidaire microhood is a microwave that also serves the purpose of a vent hood in the kitchen. You can vent it to the outside if you choose, but the easiest installation uses the grease filter and screen included with the microwave. The microhood eliminates the need for the range hood in the kitchen, while giving you a location to install your microwave. This is important when space may be limited, since it eliminates the need to use counter space The average do-it-yourselfer can manage the installation in about an hour, but you need a helper to assist with lifting the appliance.

Instructions

      Move the stove away from the wall where you will install the microwave. Locate the studs in the wall using a stud finder and mark their locations using a pencil.

      Place the mounting template on the wall under the cabinet. Use a level to make sure the template is level. Tape it to the wall.

      Mark the locations where you will need to drill holes according to the template. When you line it up on the wall, be sure to line it up so you will mount the brackets into studs. Drill the holes you need using a drill and drill bit.

      Mount the bracket on the wall using the screws that came with it and a Phillips screwdriver. Use toggle anchors on the side that does not go into a stud if necessary. Drill the hole large enough to accept the toggle anchor. Start the screw into the anchor and then push it into the wall. It will open up by the spring once you insert it into the wall. Tighten the screw with the screwdriver.

      Place the template inside the cabinet so it's flat on the bottom. Mark the locations of the holes you need to drill inside the cabinet with a pencil. Drill the holes into the bottom of the cabinet using a drill and drill bit. Cut a hole into the corner of the cabinet bottom for the power cord using a drill and hole saw.

      Lift the microwave up to the mounting bracket with a helper and attach it to the bracket. Insert the power cord into the hole you drilled as you lift the microwave up to the bracket. Install the mounting bolts through the bottom of the cabinet and into the top of the microwave using a Phillips screwdriver while your helper holds it in place.

      Plug the microwave power cord into the electrical outlet. Push the stove back into place. Install the grease filter and screen. Place the grill on the microwave front and snap it in place.
