How to Replace a Kenmore Microwave Oven Door

Microwave oven doors may become cracked or the latch may break. Microwave ovens usually do not operate with a broken door. A broken door is also a health hazard. In many cases, the microwave oven door can be replaced, avoiding purchasing a new microwave oven. Visit the Kenmore website or contact Kenmore's customer assistance to purchase a new door for your Kenmore microwave. The owner's manual may also list the specific door part number required.

      Disconnect the electrical power to the Kenmore microwave oven and remove the microwave from its mounting place. Set it on a table or workbench. In some cases, you may need to remove mounting screws or retention clips.

      Remove the microwave oven’s cabinet, air duct and bottom cover with a screwdriver.

      Remove the oven door by unscrewing the four screws located on the top cover’s front. Leave the cover on the microwave oven.

      Remove the screws and split washers from the top and bottom door hinges with a five-sixteenths inch socket. To access the top hinge screws, carefully lift the cover. To access the bottom hinge screws, tilt the oven back. Remove the microwave oven door and discard it.

      Hold the Kenmore microwave replacement door up and line it up to the hinges. Securely attach the door by reversing the previous step screwing the top and bottom screws and washers back into place with the new door connected.
