How to Replace the Door on a KitchenAid Superba Oven Microwave

The door of a microwave oven is quite often the most handled part of the appliance, and therefore more prone to damage. Whether the glass is cracked or the latch is broken, you can replace the door on a KitchenAid Superba oven microwave, avoiding the cost of purchasing a new appliance. Depending on the type of warranty you received with your microwave, you may even be able to receive the new parts for free from KitchenAid. Even if you do not have a warranty, purchasing the new door through the manufacturer of your Superba oven microwave is the best way to make sure your oven functions as it’s supposed to.

Contact KitchenAid, which is owned by Whirlpool, to inquire about the parts needed to replace the door on your Superba oven microwave. Request that the company send the parts, and keep in mind that you may have to pay for the door if your microwave is not under warranty. The contact information for KitchenAid or Whirlpool can be found in your owner’s manual or on either company’s website.

Remove the two screws used to secure the microwave to the cabinet, setting these aside for safe keeping. Pull out the microwave oven slightly from the cabinet, making sure it is still stable in the cut-out yet the front is far enough outside that you will be able to remove the door easily. Have someone else nearby to hold on to the microwave while you work.

Open the door and unscrew the screws securing it to the rest of the Superba microwave oven, keeping a hold on the door at all times. Remove the door and the hardware, setting these aside in a safe location.

    • 4

Unpack the new door and the included hardware, removing all plastic wrapping, tape or packing material. Install the new door to the microwave oven with the supplied hardware. If there is no hardware, you can typically use the screws from the old door. Make sure to follow any directions provided by KitchenAid and/or Whirlpool.

Close the door and carefully push the microwave oven back in place, making sure it is centered in the cabinet cut-out. Re-secure the microwave to the cabinet with the two mounting screws using a screwdriver or a drill with a screwdriver bit, being careful not to over tighten the screws.
