How to Repair a Scorched Microwave

Scorched areas in the interior of a microwave often occur because of a container that gets too hot, such as a bag of microwaveable popcorn. The burned areas look unattractive and also result in foul odors every time you use this handy appliance. Repairing the scorched areas requires patience since the marks are often stubborn. If you use the right type of cleaning solutions, you can get rid of the black marks if you are persistent.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a cleaning solution in the bowl by adding a squirt of liquid dishwashing detergent to warm water.

    • 2

Dip a coarse sponge into the solution and squeeze it out to prevent drips.

    • 3

Scrub the scorch marks inside the microwave with the sponge. Rinse the sponge often with clear water and saturate it again with the cleaning solution.

    • 4

Sprinkle baking soda on the scorched area if any dark spots remain.

    • 5

Dampen a clean sponge with warm water and scrub the scorch marks. Wipe the area clean with a damp cleaning cloth to determine if the dark marks remain.

    • 6

Mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoons of water if the scorched areas remain dark.

    • 7

Apply the baking soda paste to the scorch marks and allow it to sit for about four minutes.

    • 8

Remove the baking soda paste with a wet cleaning cloth.

    • 9

Moisten a cotton ball with nail polish remover that contains acetone for stubborn areas. Rub the scorch marks with the cotton ball until they disappear.

    • 10

Wash the interior of the microwave with warm soapy water and a sponge. Rinse the appliance well with a cleaning cloth dampened with water. This removes any soap, baking soda or nail polish remover left inside the unit.
