How to Troubleshoot a GE Microwave Oven

Remember to press the "Start" button on the panel after entering the amount of time you want for a dish to cook.

Instructions

  1. Control Panel Lights Work, But Oven Will Not Cook

    • 1

Remember to press the "Start" button on the panel after entering the amount of time you want for a dish to cook.

    • 2

Press the "OFF/CLEAR" button if you cannot set a cook time. If a previous cook time did not completely expire, you must clear this time before setting a new time.

    • 3

Enter the food weight into the microwave's panel after selecting "AUTO DEFROST." The "AUTO DEFROST" function will not work until after you have entered the weight of the food.

    Display Problems

    • 4

Press and hold the "OFF/CLEAR" button for three seconds if the "CONTROL LOCKED" message appears on the microwave. This will unlock the microwave.

    • 5

Do nothing if the "CAUTION—OVEN HOT" message appears. This simply means the oven has reached hotter than 200 degrees F. This is only a warning device.

    • 6

Wait for the oven to cool down if the microwave displays "CAUTION—OVEN HOT." You will not be able to use the microwave's sensor pad until the microwave cools.
