How to Replace a Microwave Turntable

Many models of microwaves come with a rotating turntable to help food heat evenly during the cooking process. In many cases, these turntables are made of glass. Broken and chipped turntables can result from contact with dishes or dropping the turntable during cleaning. In most cases, you will need to purchase a replacement from the company that manufactured your microwave to ensure that the tray fits properly into the fitting. You can order replacement parts online.

Instructions

Find your microwave manufacturer. In order to make sure that you purchase the right turntable for your microwave, you will need to know the brand. Often the brand is located on the exterior front of the microwave. Common brands include GE, Amana, Sharp, Daewoo and others. If it is not located on the front, you should check the back of the microwave for the production tag.

Find the model number. Another critical piece of information is the model number. This will ensure that the replacement turntable will indeed fit with your model. Different models of microwaves may have different turntable styles. This information is located on the production tag somewhere on your microwave. Often this is located on the back of the unit and will include the date produced and serial number of the microwave. Other possible locations could include the underside of the unit or along the side of the microwave oven door. Once you locate the tag, write down the model number. This may be a series of numbers and letters and will vary in length and format by brand.

Go to the manufacturer's website. Once on the website, locate the customer service or support page and look for a link to replacement parts. Here you should be able to enter the model number of your microwave oven and see a list of available replacement parts. Write down the replacement part numbers for future reference. In addition to the turntable, you may need to replace the rollers that go underneath some models, depending on the condition of yours.

Purchase the replacement parts. You can purchase these replacement parts from the manufacturer or you can attempt to find generic replacement parts offered by other online sellers. You will need the part number and the model number of your microwave to purchase replacement turntables from other sources. Once you have purchased them and the parts arrive, simply remove your broken turntable and set the new one in its place.
