How to Troubleshoot a Sharp Convection Microwave

The microwave is a quick alternative to the traditional convection oven. Microwaves are found in break rooms, kitchens and dorms all over the country because they are easy to use. If your Sharp microwave isn't working properly, you can call a repairman to come and take a look at your unit, or you can try to fix it yourself. Many of the problems that occur with microwaves can be solved through a couple of checks to the unit.

Unplug your Sharp microwave from the wall outlet and look over the power cord. Make sure that the pins on the end of the power cord are straight and that there aren't any frays to the cord. Replace the cord if the pins are broken or if there are any frays on the cord.

Open the microwave's door and make sure that the latch is locking the door properly. If the door does not latch properly, the microwave will not power on. Bend the door latch back into place using a pair of pliers, if necessary.

    • 3

Go to the back of the microwave and use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the back panel onto the Sharp microwave. Check the fuse under the back panel to make sure it hasn't blown. Replace the fuse if needed.

    • 4

Open the Sharp microwave's door and check over the turntable. The turntable should spin completely in order to heat the food properly. Realign the rollers on the bottom side of the turntable to get it running again.

    • 5

Check over the touch buttons to make sure they are working properly. If the touch buttons get wet, allow them to dry completely before you use the microwave.

    • 6

Listen to the buzz that comes from the microwave. If the buzz doesn't sound normal, you may need to replace the magnetron. The magnetron should only be replaced by a professional technician.
