Turn off the breaker to the room where you will be installing the over-the-range microwave. Inspect your work area thoroughly. Use a stud finder to mark studs in the wall where the microwave will be installed. Also check that the cabinet bottom is level.
Align the mounting bracket on the wall underneath your cabinet. Ensure that the tabs on the top of the mounting bracket touch the bottom of the cabinet and that at least one screw will go into a stud to support the microwave. Mark the location of the four holes in the mounting bracket on your wall. Set the mounting bracket aside.
Determine whether you will be venting your microwave out or recirculating the air into the room. If you are recirculating, you will need to remove the top plate on the microwave. Rotate the fan assembly until the fan blade openings are facing the front of the microwave. Replace the top plate.
Attach the mounting bracket to the wall using toggle bolts. Ensure that the bracket is secure against the wall. Use wood screws instead of toggle bolts when your bracket will mount onto a stud.
Tape the top cabinet template to the bottom of your wall cabinet. Drill through the marked holes for the top support screws and power cord.
Mount the over-the-range microwave to the wall. Lift the microwave and hook the bottom slots onto the tabs located on the bottom of the mounting plate. Align the microwave to sit upright and flush against the cabinet bottom.
Secure the microwave by inserting the self-aligning screws through the pre-drilled holes in the cabinet bottom. Pull the power cord up through its respective hole. If you are ducting the microwave out, connect the exhaust adapter to your house ductwork using duct tape. If you are recirculating the air, remove the grille on the front of the microwave to install the charcoal filter.
Remove all packaging materials and manuals that may be remaining inside and on the microwave. Plug the microwave in to a dedicated electrical outlet. Turn on the breaker to test the function of your microwave.
