How to Troubleshoot a Frigidaire FMV156DCD Microwave Oven

Your Frigidaire microwave is a time-saving kitchen necessity, but occasionally, things can go wrong. Microwave ovens contain complicated circuitry that can be very dangerous in inexperienced hands, so most repairs require the services of a professional. However, you can safely repair minor fixes yourself. Frigidaire microwaves come with a one-year limited warranty, so if your warranty is still valid, it is best to engage a repair service immediately instead of attempting home repair.

Instructions

  1. No Power/No Heat/No Rotation

    • 1

Check your fuses/circuit breakers to make sue they are fully operational. Replace defective ones as necessary.

    • 2

Open the microwave door and check the latch mechanism for buildup, bending, breakages or wear. If the latch or the catch is bent, worn or broken in any way, it must be replaced by a professional.

    • 3

Remove grimy buildup with a damp cloth, and close the door. If it latches securely enough that it doesn't wiggle, try to run the microwave. If the door doesn't latch securely, the latch must be replaced by a professional. If the door latches but the microwave still won't run, and internal fuse has blown, and must be replaced by a professional.

    • 4

Locate the grease filters on the back of the oven. Pull down on the tabs to remove them. Clean the filters in warm, soapy water. Allow the filters to dry thoroughly, then replace them.

    • 5

Contact a repair center if the microwave turns on but doesn't heat, or if you cannot adjust the power level. These point to a defective circuit board, which you cannot replace yourself.

    • 6

Remove the carousel and wheel assembly from the inside of the microwave, and run it for a few seconds. Watch for the square knob in the center of the oven floor to turn. If it doesn't turn, the motor must be replaced by a professional. If it does turn, there is probably buildup on the plate or wheel assembly that is impeding movement. Wash them in warm, soapy water and re-install.

    Sparks/Arcs/Fire

    • 7

Check the dish or container inside the microwave for metal parts. Even china with gold rims can cause arcing and fire. Never put metal in a microwave. If you see fire, call 911.

    • 8

Unplug the microwave and locate the wave guide cover on the right inside wall of the cavity. Use a damp cloth to remove buildup. If the problem persists or if the wave guide cover has any burn spots, unscrew the cover and replace with the identical part.

    • 9

Check the entire cavity of the microwave for burn spots. Sand each spot smooth with fine-grit sandpaper, and apply a coat of microwave touch-up paint to each spot. Allow to paint dry completely before operating the microwave. If the burns have created holes in the metal siding, discontinue use of the microwave and contact a repair center.
