How to Troubleshoot Emerson Household Microwave Ovens

The Emerson Company makes several home and audio appliances and accessories, including radios, Apple iPod systems and microwaves. Emerson microwaves are meant primarily for use in the home and can be purchased at home retail and appliance stores. Basic precautions should be used with Emerson microwaves, such as avoiding placing metal items in the microwave and opening containers before cooking to prevent possible explosions. Troubleshooting steps can help identify and fix other problems that may occur during use.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the power cord and ensure it is firmly connected to the microwave and the local power outlet if the microwave oven is not working. Open and close the door firmly and reset the cooking time if the unit still does not work.

    • 2

Avoid using metal utensils, dishes or aluminum foil inside the microwave. If sparking occurs, press the "Stop" button and disconnect the microwave from the power outlet. Wait for the sparking to stop and the item to cool completely before removing from the microwave.

    • 3

Allow food to stand for a few minutes after cooking if the moisture content in the food is uneven. Cover the food prior to cooking to retain more moisture in the food or add a small amount of water to dry food before cooking.

    • 4

Place unevenly shaped food on the turntable with thinner parts closer to the center of the turntable and the larger items or parts towards the outside if food is cooking unevenly.

    • 5

Ensure all sides of the microwave have proper space for air movement through the vents if the food does not seem to be cooking enough or is cooking too much. Adjust cooking time or temperature if necessary.
