How to Install a Frigidaire Microwave

Depending upon the model, a Frigidaire microwave may be meant for installation either in a built-in frame or under a cabinet over the stove. Choose the correct microwave for your situation. Both types of microwave require an exhaust system, so make sure your installation area allows for outdoor venting. This is especially important if the microwave is to be installed over a stove, as the microwave acts as the stove's exhaust as well.

Instructions

  1. Built-in

    • 1

Remove the microwave from the packaging and make sure you have all the necessary hardware.

    • 2

Insert the exhaust duct assembly into the installation space. The assembly should sit level on the floor of the space, and sit snugly against the back wall and front opening. Use the two short screws, labeled "Screw A," to attach the exhaust assembly to the flange on either side to the front lip of the opening.

    • 3

Hold the microwave in front of the opening and plug in the cord. The outlet is along the bottom of the microwave or in the top left-hand corner.

    • 4

Guide the microwave's feet into the grooves on the exhaust assembly and slide the microwave back into position. The control panel should be flush with the lip of the opening; if it's not, slide the microwave out and make sure the power cord is not obstructing the placement.

    • 5

Place the frame assembly over the front of the microwave and attach it with the four longer screws, labeled "Screw B." If the frame is not level, loosen screws as necessary to make it level.

    Over the Range

    • 6

Remove the microwave from the packaging and make sure you have all necessary hardware. Locate the paper template provided and set it aside.

    • 7

Locate the fan cover plate on the top of the microwave and remove the three screws. Remove the plate and rotate the fan assembly 90 degrees until the opening is facing up. Replace the plate and the screws.

    • 8

Tape the top cabinet template to the underside of the upper cabinet and drill the power-cord hole and the front screw holes. Cut out the ventilation hole with a jigsaw or keyhole saw.

    • 9

Tape the wall template to the wall and use it to locate at least one wall stud within the designated mounting plate area. Use wood screws to attach the mounting plate to the stud. For the end that does not contact a stud, use the toggle bolt with the attached toggle nut to attach the mounting plate to the drywall. Follow the template precisely.

    • 10

Make sure the mounting plate is level, then tighten the screws and pull the toggle bolts toward you while turning to tighten.

    • 11

Hold the microwave underneath the upper cabinet and thread the power cord through the large hole.

    • 12

Tilt the microwave forward and hook the back bottom edge onto the mounting plate. Tilt the microwave up until the back of it is against the wall. Use the "Top Cabinet Screws" (two long, thick bolts) with a flat washer on either one to attach the microwave to the floor of the upper cabinet through the front holes.

    • 13

Screw the "Tapping Screws" (two shorter screws) into the underside of the mounting plate to attach it to the microwave.

    • 14

Attach the previously installed exhausting system through the exhaust hole in the upper cabinet, then plug the microwave in. Slide the grease filter into place on the underside of the microwave.
