How to Troubleshoot an Emerson Microwave Oven

Your Emerson microwave oven is designed to be easy to use. The buttons are clearly labeled, the operator's manual is easy to read and even includes a cooking guide. But although easy to operate and Emerson microwave oven is a complicated piece of machinery. When it malfunctions, the troubleshooting options available to the home use are limited. If these troubleshooting techniques do not fix your problem, contact customer service. Any unauthorized tampering with the microwave oven may damage the machine or void its warranty.

      Check the power supply if your Emerson microwave oven is not receiving any power. Make sure that the microwave oven is still plugged into the outlet. If the microwave oven is plugged in, check the outlet to see if it is providing power. A blown circuit or tripped fuse may be causing the outlet to fail.

      Pull on the microwave oven's door to ensure that it is firmly latched closed; if it is not, the microwave will not heat. If the door is firmly closed and the microwave still will not begin to heat food, check to make sure that the cooking time is set.

      Disengage the child lock. When the child lock is on, the Emerson microwave oven's buttons will be unresponsive. To deactivate the child lock, press and hold the "stop/clear" button for three seconds.

      Remove metal from the interior of the microwave. Metal causes the microwave to produces sparks or arcs when it heats. Check any containers or utensils inside the microwave oven. If they contain any metal trim, remove them and do not insert them in the microwave again. If your Emerson microwave oven operates with metal skewers make sure that they - and no other metals - touch the interior walls of the microwave oven. If metal is not the problem it may be grease build up. Wipe away any grease build up in the interior of the microwave oven with a rag moistened (not dripping) with hot soapy water.
