How to Troubleshoot a GE Spacemaker XL1800

The GE Spacemaker XL 1800 microwave features a touch control-panel display, removable turntable and active vent, which causes the vent door to open on its own when needed. Rather than calling an appliance repair person, troubleshoot any issues with your GE Spacesaver microwave. If you manage to diagnose and repair the problem on your own, you could save a considerable amount of money.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the microwave's power cord if it does not operate. Re-plug it into a working electrical outlet. Check the power supply to be sure the circuit does not need to be reset or the fuse replaced. Reset the circuit or replace the fuse, if you determine that to be the issue.

    • 2

Open the microwave's door if it does not run, then close it firmly. It won't run with an open door.

    • 3

Push "Clear/Off" and hold it for more than three seconds if "Control Locked" or "Locked" is visible on the display screen.

    • 4

Stop attempting to program a "Reminder" cycle or the "Auto Nite Light" cycle if the microwave emits a short, low tone. Begin again, this time inputting an acceptable time of day when prompted.

    • 5

Press the "Time Cook" command when heating bulk amounts of food if the "Sensor Reheat" option does not function as expected. This option is meant for one serving of food at a time, not larger amounts.
