Microwave Ovens That Bake

Microwaves were invented the 1940s. Since then, they have developed some unique features and functions. Modern microwaves can bake with the precision of a conventional oven in half the time. Microwaves with convection oven baking are more costly but provide faster roasting and even browning for baking goods.

    • The Apollo Half Time is a combination convection/microwave oven that lives up to its name by baking meals in half the time of a conventional electric or gas oven. This microwave oven combination features four "express cook" buttons programmed to prepare beverages, soup or popcorn or defrost. It has a 12.5 inch diameter glass turntable and a specially designed non-stick metal cooking tray, which should only be used in the convection oven setting. Half Time, Complete Meal, Microwave and Convection are the four featured cooking modes. This convection/microwave oven has 1,600 watts and oven temperatures of 150 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. It is available in stainless steel, white or black and has a one cubic foot capacity. The main drawback is its large size, which will require extra counter space.

    • The Haier 1.2 cu. foot microwave features brushed stainless steel inside and out. The glass turntable is 12.4 inches in diameter, and the appliance also comes with a wire baking rack. In addition to the convection feature, this unit also has a grill and combination setting, which utilizes the latest microwave technology for more meal possibilities. The oven temperatures range from 100 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit, with an unchangeable grilling temperature of 329 degrees Fahrenheit, which might work more as a broiler for grill masters and experienced chefs.     • The large GE Profile microwave has a 1.5 cubic foot capacity. Cooking push-button control options include Microwave, Convection, Time Cook and Defrost. It also features four "sensor cook" options for popcorn, beverages or reheating. The unit's panel digitally displays helpful instructions and cooking information. Other unique features include automatic humidity level control, 10 power levels and automatic and manual defrost. This appliance comfortably accommodates oversized pans but will require extra counter space.
